Finite Element Thermal Heat Conduction Computer Model for Verifying Thread Connection Effectiveness
Objective: Assist in determining acceptable v. unacceptable threaded connections by correlating collar surface temperature profiles with assumed torque (friction) profiles along the threads.
Proposed Applications:
- Predict surface temperature profile as a function of time for an assumed thread friction profile
- Estimate the location of thread sections with high contact friction (torque) based on observed temperature profiles
- Understand how observed temperature profiles change with time due to conduction heat transfer along the threads
Inputs To Computer Model
- Geometrical properties of collar and pin including thread length
- Section(s) of thread requiring high torque (high friction)
- Time to complete connection
- Thermal properties of materials
